Affidea ExpressCare Clinics in Tallaght and Cork will act as advanced treatment centres
– Patients will be able to avail of a range of additional procedures carried out by specialist consultants
Affidea, Ireland’s leading independent provider of diagnostic imaging and outpatient services, has reached an agreement with Irish Life Health (ILH) which will allow private consultants provide a range of patient procedures at two of Affidea’s JCI accredited ExpressCare Clinics.
The new list of treatments will be available in the Affidea ExpressCare Clinics in Tallaght (to cover the greater Leinster area) and in Cork (to cover the greater Munster area). Patients in need of specialised care in these regions will have the option of being treated by a consultant in an Affidea clinic.
Operating intially out of these two clinics, it is part of a long term strategy to enable the delivery of key procedures from the netwok of Affidea clinics across Ireland.
Additional procedures which will now be covered and directly settled in the two Affidea clinics are:
- Pain injections
- Non-oncology infusions
- Intravitreal injections
- Minor skin and subcutaneous excisions, biopsies etc.
Affidea’s facilities in Tallaght and Cork will be open to fully participating consultants on the Medical Council specialist register and who are holders of Category B, B*, C contracts or full-time private Consultants. Professional fees will be paid and directly settled for agreed listed treatments which are included on the Irish Life Health Schedule of Benefits.
Affidea operates a number of ExpressCare clinics nationwide which are ‘walk in’ facilities that treat minor injuries and illnesses that don’t require a hospital visit. Three of their clinics – Tallaght, Northwood (Dublin) and Cork – are fully operational during the Covid-19 crisis.
Offering fast turnaround times without an appointment, ExpressCare Clinics treat minor injuries and illnesses such as fractures and sprains, lacerations requiring stitches, sports and DIY injuries, minor burns and scalds, eye and ear injuries, insect and animal bites, infections and rashes. Children over the age of one are also treated, eliminating the need for a stressful visit to a hospital A&E department with an injured child.
As well as operating the ExpressCare Clinics, Affidea also has ten state-of-the-art diagnostic centres and two managed hospital services across the country that provide MRI, CT, Ultrasound, X-Ray and DEXA scan facilities*. This offers patients unrivalled access to advanced diagnostic imaging which has previously been an issue in Irish healthcare.
Affidea operates the youngest and most modern fleet of MRI facilities within the Dublin region with an average age of less than three years, enabling it to provide high end diagnostic imaging in modern, comfortable settings.
Affidea Ireland, which was established here in 2007, is part of the European Group, Affidea, which has 280 advanced diagnostic imaging, outpatient and cancer care centres across 16 countries. Focused on providing high quality affordable care, the company sees over 7 million patients per year, performs over 14 million examinations annually and works with over 9,400 professionals, of which 3000 are medical doctors.
Barry Downes, CEO of Affidea Ireland, says: “We are delighted to have secured this agreement with Irish Life Health as it broadens our treatment and care offerings for patients initially in the Leinster and Munster regions. This is a service offering that is in line with what we are providing in some of our other clinics across Europe and has been in planning for some time now. It reinforces the fact that there are many procdures that can be carried out in appropriately accredited ambulatory care type facilites. All of our clinics are JCI accredited and are kitted out with the latest medical and diagnostics equipment which makes them an ideal setting for the safe and efficient delivery of these types of procedures.
Covid19 restrictions have made patients reluctant to attend mainstream hospitals for treatment but it is critical that we don’t lose sight of the fact that other illnesses and health needs are still present and need timely care and attention.
We are operating to the highest standards of care and hygiene in all of our clinics, ensuring we can provide safe, reliable and expedient treatments at our locations. Patients can be assured that they will be treated in a safe and comfortable environment with minimum stress and disruption. It also frees up capacity for those in need of specialised care in our hospitals – which is so important at the moment.”
Jim Dowdall, Managing Director, Irish Life Health commented:
“We are delighted to partner with Affidea to offer our customers greater access to innovative primary health care services during these very worrying times. At Irish Life Health, we strive to find innovative ways to address our customer’s healthcare needs and this partnership provides our customers with access to consultant led advice and treatment in Affidea’s state of the art medical facilities for health concerns unrelated to the Covid-19 pandemic.”
