Books by Liz Nugent, Paul Murray, Katriona O\u2019Sullivan, Mark O\u2019Connell, Eimear Ryan and editors Lucinda Jacob and Sarah Webb along with illustrator Ashwin Chacko are in the running for the accolade of \u2018An Post Irish Book of the Year 2023\u2019.<\/p>\n

The six titles competing for the overall An Post Irish Book of the Year Award were drawn\u00a0from the category winners at the An Post Irish Book Awards, and were chosen on the principle\u00a0of\u00a0\u00a0the highest number of votes secured during the shortlist voting process across all categories.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n

- A Thread of Violence<\/em> \u2013 Mark O\u2019Donnell (Granta Books)<\/li>\n
- I Am the Wind: Irish Poems for Children Everywhere<\/em> \u2013 Edited by Lucinda Jacob and Sarah Webb, illustrated by Ashwin Chacko (Little Island Books)<\/li>\n

The overall \u2018An Post Irish Book of the Year 2023\u2019 winner will now be decided by a distinguished panel of judges, including a literary editor, a bestselling novelist, a broadcaster with RTE, Director of International Trade with An Post, the CEO of Children\u2019s Books Ireland and a bookstore general manager.<\/p>\n

The judging panel consists of:<\/p>\n

\n- Madeleine Keane \u2013 Literary editor of the Sunday Independent, lecturer at University College Dublin and Board Member of Children\u2019s Books Ireland<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/p>\n
\n- Sinead Moriarty \u2013 Award-winning author of 16 novels and three children\u2019s books. Sinead is the books ambassador for Eason Must Reads book club and founded and co-hosted the podcast \u2018What\u2019s In The Water\u2019<\/em> with fellow author Anna McPartlin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/p>\n
\n- Rick O\u2019Shea \u2013 Broadcaster with RT\u00c9 Gold, Rick runs The Rick O\u2019Shea Book Club on Facebook and chooses the Eason Must Reads list four times a year. He is also literary curator for the annual UCD Festival and a board member of Fighting Worlds NI in Belfast<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

\n- Cyril McGrane \u2013 A certified public accountant by profession, Cyril has worked with An Post for the last 26 years, holding a succession of senior roles in retail, operational and logistics management. Cyril is An Post\u2019s key liaison lead with IPC and UPU and he is leading An Post\u2019s Customs 2020 and Brexit programmes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

\n- Elaina Ryan \u2013 CEO of Children\u2019s Books Ireland and Co-Artistic Director of Tower and Tales Children\u2019s Books Festival in Co. Wexford<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

\n- T\u00f3mas Kenny \u2013 General Manager of Kenny\u2019s bookshop, Tom\u00e1s has worked in Kenny\u2019s for over 20 years, dealing with purchasing, marketing and the selling of new, second hand and rare books along with archive material. He has served on the committee of Bookselling Ireland since 2020<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

One of the six titles will be revealed as the \u2018An Post Irish Book of the Year 2023\u2019 during a one-hour television special hosted by Oliver Callan on RT\u00c9 One on Wednesday 6th<\/sup> December at 10:35pm.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Since its inception, the An Post Irish Book of the Year Award has been won by a series of landmark titles which have gone on to become Christmas bestsellers and firm favourites with readers.<\/p>\n
